2026 Ford Maverick vs. the Competition

2026 Ford Maverick vs the Competition

When the Ford Maverick was introduced, it marked the return of the small pickup truck in the U.S.A. The response was tremendous, thanks to its capabilities, utility, and a standard hybrid driveline rated at 42 MPG in the city.

For 2026, the Maverick continues to bring a variety of customers to see what this pickup truck can do. From small businesspeople to retirees – and everyone in between – they found the Maverick attractive with its affordable pricing.

The 2026 Maverick starts with a SuperCrew four-door cab and a 54-inch-long bed integrated into a single body unit. You can choose between a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid driveline with 184 combined horsepower or the 250-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It comes with either front- or all-wheel drive.

There is a 2026 Maverick that fits your lifestyle. The XL is a great work companion at a very affordable price to meet your bottom line. The value-oriented XLT offers more equipment for you to enjoy. The Lariat delivers luxury with upgraded materials and features. Backwoods enthusiasts will enjoy the Tremor with its increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and rugged good looks. The Lobo is the return of the sport truck, with a lower profile, aerodynamic body enhancements, sport wheels and grille, and an attitude all its own.

Is the 2026 Maverick the compact pickup truck with off-road capability you’re looking for? Let’s see how it compares to its competition.

2026 Ford Maverick vs Hyundai Santa Cruz

The demand for pickup trucks has not been lost at Hyundai. They created one with a unitized construction and some unique rear storage solutions, such as a tonneau cover. There is a choice of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged version of that engine, along with a standard eight-speed automatic transmission and a choice of front – or all-wheel drive.

  • The Santa Cruz and Maverick match up well. That is, until you start loading items in the bed. The Santa Cruz is restricted by a tonneau cover whose rails protrude onto the cargo box. You can load more in a Maverick with a. wider bed wall area, and it offers the FLEXBED storage system for better cargo management.
  • The other advantage of the Maverick’s bed is its ability to carry more inside. The maximum 1,500-pound rating on the Ford beat the Santa Cruz’s 1,411-pound rating.
  • Efficiency is the name of the game when it comes to your bottom line. Let alone your wallet. That is why the Maverick offers a hybrid driveline with its rated 42 MPG in the city. This is the highest fuel economy figure of any pickup truck sold in the U.S.A., and no such driveline is offered on the Santa Cruz.
  • Hyundai redesigned its interior in 2025, with the screens placed side by side. Yet the Maverick has a larger infotainment touchscreen at 13.2 inches, compared to the 12.3-inch screen in the Hyundai.
  • The Maverick has a more accommodating rear seat area than the Santa Cruz. The Ford has more headroom (42.6 inches vs. 39.6 inches) and hip room (54.1 inches vs. 53.5 inches) than the Hyundai.

2026 Ford Maverick vs Nissan Frontier

The Nissan Frontier, one of the original smaller pickup trucks available in this country, has become a strong choice for both work and recreational use. A standard 3.8-liter V6 is coupled to a nine-speed automatic transmission, eventually sending power to the rear- or all four wheels. The Frontier offers a choice of cab and bed types, along with five trim levels: S, SV, Dark Armor, PRO-X, and PRO-4X.

  • Efficiency is the name of the game when it comes to your bottom line. Let alone your wallet. That is why the Maverick offers a hybrid driveline with a rated 42 MPG in the city. This is the highest fuel economy figure of any pickup truck sold in the U.S.A.
  • The largest center display touchscreen available on the Frontier is 12.3 inches. Yet the Maverick has a larger 13.2-inch infotainment touchscreen.
  • A larger pickup truck can be bulky to run around in, especially when you’re putting it to work around town. The Maverick not only weighs less (3,674 pounds vs. 4,376 pounds) but is also shorter (199.8 inches vs. 210.2 inches).
  • The Frontier lineup offers a mix of value and off-road trims. The Maverick has the Lobo – a sports truck that offers attitude and a lowered stance.
  • Value and price are the reasons why pickup truck customers are interested in the Maverick. You will find that the Ford has an MSRP $3,000 lower than the Nissan Frontier.

2026 Ford Maverick vs Toyota RAV4

The Toyota RAV4 is all-new for 2026, featuring a new design inside and out and an all-hybrid driveline lineup. The standard hybrid engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while the plug-in hybrid uses the same motor set. There are a total of nine trim levels in this year’s lineup, including the rugged Woodland and Woodland PHEV, along with a PHEV GR Sport.

  • Comparing a pickup truck with an SUV might not make sense, but the RAV4 was the best-selling vehicle in its class in 2025. The Maverick is the same size as the RAV4, yet it offers more utility than the SUV.
  • You can tow with a RAV4. However, their maximum towing capacity rating is 3,500 pounds. The Maverick has a maximum tow rating of 4,000 pounds.
  • The Maverick rides on a 121.1-inch wheelbase, which is impressive compared to the RAV4’s 105.9-inch wheelbase.
  • The standard center display touchscreen on the RAV4 is 10.5 inches. Yet, the Maverick has a larger standard infotainment touchscreen at 13.2 inches.
  • Overall, the Ford Maverick is a great value. It also has a lower MSRP of around $3,800 compared to the lowest-priced Toyota RAV4.
