2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs the Competition

2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs the Competition

The Ford Bronco is undoubtedly an off-roading legend – but is it possible to distill its go-anywhere spirit into a smaller, more refined form? Absolutely – and the 2026 Ford Bronco Sport does exactly that, along with more fuel-efficient drivelines and an approachable price point.

The 2026 Bronco Sport is a four-door compact SUV that can seat up to five people in comfort. You can choose between a 181-horsepower 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged three-cylinder engine or the 250-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine. All Bronco Sport models offer all-wheel drive, along with a variety of “G.O.A.T. Modes” which quickly help configure the vehicle for various types of terrain.

There is a 2026 Bronco Sport designed to fit your lifestyle. The Big Bend is a great gateway to the Bronco family, available at a very affordable price. If you love nostalgia, the Heritage Edition brings you back to 1966, where it all started. The value-oriented Outer Banks offers more equipment to enjoy, along with options to bring out more fun in your life. Backwoods enthusiasts will enjoy the Badlands with its rugged good looks and added off-road capability.

Is the 2026 Bronco Sport the compact SUV for you? Let’s see how it compares to its competition.

2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs Subaru Crosstrek

Subaru offers a crossover with plenty of unique features. With standard all-wheel drive and a horizontally opposed engine, the Crosstrek was developed for a specific purpose. Its loyal customer base loves its Subarus for these unique features. It comes in Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Wilderness trim levels.

  • The Bronco Sport offers more cargo area with up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 65.2 cubic feet with the rear seats down. The Compass can only offer 19.9 and 54.7 cubic feet, respectively.
  • When it comes to headroom, no one beats the Bronco Sport with 41.5 inches up front and 41.7 inches in the back. The Crosstrek has up to 39.8 inches up front and 38 inches in back.
  • In the Bronco Sport, you have the option to upgrade on certain trims to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which provides 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque – more than any engine Subaru offers in its Crosstrek.
  • The Crosstrek Wilderness offers a two-mode “X-Mode” system for improved traction management in tougher conditions.  Bronco Sport offers several different G.O.A.T. Modes tailored to more specific terrain types and use cases.

2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs Jeep Compass

Much like Ford did with the Bronco Sport, Jeep instilled the Compass, its own compact SUV, with some of the off-road chops of its larger siblings. The Compass is propelled by a 200-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, an eight-speed automatic transmission, and standard all-wheel drive. Available trim levels include Latitude, Latitude Altitude, Limited, Limited Altitude, Trailhawk, and an 85th Anniversary model.

  • The Bronco Sport offers more cargo area with up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 65.2 cubic feet with them folded down. The Compass can only provide 27.2 and 59.8 cubic feet, respectively.
  • Certain Bronco Sport trim levels offer the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque – more than the only engine Jeep offers in the Compass.
  • The Compass’ wheelbase is 103.9 inches. However, the Bronco Sport has a longer 105.1-inch wheelbase, improving both interior space and ride quality.
  • Compass is rated to tow up to 2,000 pounds, but Bronco Sport can tow up to 2,700 pounds when properly equipped.
  • When it comes to headroom, no one beats the Bronco Sport, as it offers 41.5 inches up front and 41.7 inches in the back. That bests Compass, which offers 39.2 inches in front and 38.5 inches to rear-seat passengers.

2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs Toyota Corolla Cross

The Toyota Corolla Cross is a crossover based on the globally popular sedan. Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, it is also offered in a hybrid version. The Corolla Cross is available in front- and all-wheel drive in L, LE, XLE, Hybrid S, Hybrid SE, and Hybrid XSE.

  • Offering front-wheel drive may be great for efficiency and traction on most days, but when it rains, snows, or if you wind up on a muddy path, the power of all four wheels working to find as much traction as possible. Bronco Sport is equipped with all-wheel drive as standard equipment, while its standard G.O.A.T. Modes for even better traction management.
  • The Bronco Sport offers more cargo area with up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 65.2 cubic feet with the rear seats down. The Compass can only muster up to 24 and 46.9 cubic feet, respectively.
  • The standard engine on the Corolla Cross is rated at 169 horsepower withb151 pound-feet of torque. The Bronco Sport’s turbocharged three-cylinder engine is rated at 181 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.
  • The Corolla Cross’ wheelbase is 103.9 inches. However, the Bronco Sport has a longer 105.1-inch wheelbase, which can provide a smoother ride.

2026 Ford Bronco Sport vs Mazda CX 30

Mazda’s small SUV is a sporty number befitting of the brand. Powered by either a naturally-aspirated or turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, the CX-30 sends power to a six-speed automatic transmission and all four wheels. CX-30 trim levels include the 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select Sport, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Aire Edition, 2.5 s Carbon Edition, 2,5 S Premium, 2.5 Turbo Aire Edition, and 2,5 Turbo Premium Plus.

  • The Bronco Sport offers more cargo area with up to 32.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 65.2 cubic feet with the rear seats down. The Compass can only provide 20.2 and 45.2 cubic feet, respectively.
  • Mazda’s infotainment system relies on a control knob placed on the center console to interface with on-screen menus and controls. Bronco Sport utilizes a large 13.2-inch center touchscreen display that is in easy reach of the driver and intuitive to use.
  • Ground clearance is important if you venture off the beaten path, and while the CX-30’s eight inches of ground clearance is impressive, Bronco Sport bests that figure by nearly an inch.
The CX-30’s wheelbase is 104.4 inches. However, the Bronco Sport has a longer 105.1-inch wheelbase, which can improve ride quality.
  • In the CX-30, Mazda does not recommend any towing for this vehicle. That is no problem for the Bronco Sport, which can tow up to 2,700 pounds when equipped.
