Sasquatch Showdown: Comparing Off-Road Packages on Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport

October 7th, 2026 by

The word “sasquatch” is synonymous with the mythical “big foot” creature. It lays down tracks – sometimes without a trace – to unknown trails deep into the backwoods.

2026 Bronco Sport with Sasquatch Package

That is why Ford applied the Sasquatch name to its backwoods-ready package for the 2026 Bronco and Bronco Sport. The Sasquatch Package enables each of these already-capable SUVs to tackle uncharted territory leaving a wide track behind for other to attempt to follow.

The Sasquatch Package is a performance enhancement for both the 2026 Bronco Sport and 2026 Bronco. While equipment varies slightly between models, the goal is the same: to improve all-terrain agility and capability.

On the 2026 Bronco Sport Outer Banks and Badlands, selecting this package includes 29-inch all-terrain tires on 17-inch alloy wheels, an advanced driveline with a twin-clutch rear-drive unit and a locking rear differential. The included High Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) adds upgraded springs, an increased ride height of 8.6 inches, Bilstein shock absorbers with position-sensitive damping and remote reservoirs.

Additional protection for the 2026 Bronco Sport with the Sasquatch Package is added underneath with steel skid plates and a front brush guard and recovery hooks. Outer Banks models are powered by the 180-horsepower, 1.5-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine, while Badlands models get the 250-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine. Both engines are connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission driven through a standard all-wheel drive system with G.O.A.T. (Goes Over All Types of Terrain) modes that are enhanced for the Sasquatch Package.

On 2026 Bronco models, the Sasquatch Package adds electronic-locking front and rear axles with a 4.7:1 final drive ratio, a transfer case with selectable automatic four-wheel drive mode, high-clearance fender flares, 35-inch rugged-terrain tires, and an upgraded HOSS suspension system that includes Bilstein position-sensitive dampers. The ground clearance is raised to 11.5 inches on four-door models and 11.6 inches on two-door models.

The Sasquatch Package is standard on the 2026 Bronco Heritage and Bronco Stroppe models and available on most other non-Raptor Bronco trim levels, although Big Bend models now also require the addition of the Black Diamond package in the process.  The 2026 Bronco comes with either a 275-horsepower 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost engine or a 315-horsepower 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6. A seven-speed manual is available with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine on most trim levels, while a 10-speed automatic transmission comes with either engine. A four-wheel drive system with G.O.A.T. modes come standard on all 2026 Bronco models.

Interestingly, both the 2026 Bronco and Bronco Sport equipped with the Sasquatch Pacage were put through the wringer during a comparison test orchestrated by Edmunds.com. They concluded by saying that “[d[on’t discount the baby Bronco when searching for an off-road rig. If you’re not planning on hitting the big rock obstacles, the Bronco Sport might serve you better than its bigger sibling.” However, editors continued to say that “if you’ll be spending more time in the rocks than the sand, then the bigger Bronco is likely worth your money.”
